Annual Conference

Regional leadership training days
Baltimore-Washington Conference will offer training for church leaders in areas of finance, trustees, pastor-staff-parish relations, church council and others in all four regions.
Southern Region will meet Saturday, March 15 at two locations and times. Classes and instructors for each session include SPRC - Rev. Ianther Mills; Trustees – Rev. Chris Holmes; Finance – Rev. Jim Farmer; Church Council – Rev. Clarence Davis; Evangelism – Rev. Rodney Smothers; Visioning – Rev. John Williams.
• A morning session, 9-11:30 a.m., will be held at Trinity UMC, 90 Church St., in Prince Frederick.
• An afternoon session, 1:30-4 p.m., will be held at Calvary UMC, 301 Rowe Blvd., in Annapolis.
Baltimore Region will meet March 15, times and location to be announced.
Western Region training will be held Saturday, March 29, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Otterbein UMC, 108 E. Franklin St., in Hagerstown. Classes include SPRC, Finance/Stewardship and Vison/Mission/Strategy. For more information, contact Tonia Bennett at tbennett@bwcumc.org.
Connectional Table
The Connectional Table will meet Saturday, March 1, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Conference Center, 7178 Columbia Gateway Drive, in Columbia.All people elected to serve on conference boards and committees are invited to attend.The agenda will include reviewing and addressing upcoming annual conference legislation
I Am Mission
Strengthening the Black Church for the 21st Century is sponsoring an I Am Mission for youth and young adults, Saturday, March 1, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Sharp Street Memorial UMC, Dolphin & Etting streets in Baltimore. The program is designed to help all youth and young adults understand Volunteers in Mission and how to be involved in Katrina recovery work in New Orleans. Youth leader training
The Conference Youth Ministry is sponsoring a training session for youth workers and leaders Saturday, March 8, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at Mt. Oak UMC, 14110 Mount Oak Road in Mitchellville. Lunch will be provided. There is no charge, but confirm attendance at ray@mtoak.org.
Lay Speaking Classes
• The Washington Region will hold basic and advanced Lay Speaker courses Saturdays, March 29, April 5 and 12, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. A spiritual leadership course will be taught as a refresher course for local church lay speakers on March 29 and April 5, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The courses will be held at Ashton UMC, 17341 New Hampshire Ave., in Ashton. • Baltimore West District will hold spring Lay Speaker classes for six weeks Mondays, April 7 through May 12, at Mt. Olive UMC, 5115 Old Court Road in Randallstown.
School of Faith and Life
The Annapolis-Southern Region’s annual School of Faith and Life will begin classes April 7, for six weeks each Monday, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Linthicum Heights UMC, 200 School Lane, in Linthicum Heights. NEJ Congress of the Deaf
Magothy UMC of the Deaf will host the Northeast Jurisdiction’s United Methodist Congress of the Deaf Saturday, May 17. Keynote speaker will be the Rev. Rick McClain who is deaf and runs the Internet American Sign Language Christian deaf pastor training online university. Churches with ties to deaf ministry are invited to attend the all day event. Bishop’s cruise to Paul’s lands
Bishop John R. Schol will lead a cruise that follows Paul’s fourth journey to Greece and Italy in November. Pastors, teachers, church leaders and members are invited to join the cruise on the Orient Queen from New York Nov. 12 and returning Nov. 22. Sites to be visited include Athens and Corinth, Malta, Sicily, Rome, Naples and Pompeii. The bishop will lead a lecture series, “The Studies of Paul’s Life and Teachings.” Costs range from $2,298 to $4,148, including roundtrip airfare to New York.
